A few years ago, when I got started in the e-commerce world, I was practically starting from scratch in learning how to sell something on Amazon. Sure, I had attended University, but was a biology, psych and com degree really going to help me figure out how to do everything I needed from getting a business license to creating a product and marketing it?
And so for me, it was like starting in the first grade all over again. From learning basics to the advanced stuff, I needed guidance. And not the kind that’s on YouTube for free because while you can learn pretty much anything on the internet these days, er…how do I put this lightly?
Not everyone should really have an audience.
That’s when I started scouting. I remember thinking, “If I am going to invest the thousands of dollars I saved through college into funding a business, this is going to be the real deal.”
I got to search and a few years later, I’m in a position where I can tell you a little something about something in the Amazon FBA space.
So, first thing’s first.
How Do I Prepare to Sell on Amazon?
It’s no secret preparing to sell on Amazon involves several steps to ensure a successful and profitable online business venture. While I cannot give you a full run-down here, I can summarize over-arching steps.
First, congratulations on making the decision to start. You’ll want to begin by taking time to sit down and identify your goals. What is it that you want out of building your own business? Do you want a few extra dollars? Do you want to replace your income? Do you just want an extra cushion?
Secondly, how much are you willing to invest and into what? Everyone says find a profitable product, but it’s not a one-size-fits-all. Depending on your upfront investment capital, the type of product you select will change which is why it is that much more important to conduct thorough market research to identify lucrative product niches and understand customer demand. This involves analyzing trends, evaluating competition, and assessing the feasibility of your chosen niche.
Once you’ve picked the product, that’s really when you will get around to sourcing. Your branding and packaging strategy will need to appeal and resonate with your target audience. And whether you opt to manufacture your product or source it from suppliers, quality and reliability will matter greatly, as will being careful to familiarize yourself with Amazon’s policies and guidelines to ensure compliance and avoid potential issues down the line.
The product will need to be moved to your intended Amazon warehouse(s) upon completion and your product listing will need to be optimized for maximum visibility and conversions. This includes keyword research to integrate relevant search terms into your product title, description, and backend keywords. High-quality images, compelling product descriptions, and accurate information are vital to attracting and engaging potential buyers.
Not to mention, setting up your Amazon seller account, choosing the appropriate fulfillment method (FBA or FBM), establishing pricing strategies and setting up ad campaigns will also be aspects of preparation.
Mistakes are a part of every business. However, the best way to ensure you don’t make a costly mistake in the series of steps you will have to take to start selling on Amazon is to invest time and effort in educating yourself through a reputable Amazon FBA course, like those offered by Helium 10. Amazon FBA courses can provide valuable insights and guidance throughout your journey. An Amazon FBA course can cover everything from product research and listing optimization to marketing and scaling your business. By taking these preparatory steps, you can position yourself for success in the competitive world of Amazon FBA.
What Is an Amazon FBA Course?
An Amazon FBA course is a structured and comprehensive educational program designed to guide individuals through the process of starting, managing, and growing a successful Amazon FBA (Fulfillment by Amazon) business. These Amazon FBA courses can offer insights, strategies, and techniques that help aspiring entrepreneurs like yourself navigate the complexities of selling on Amazon’s platform.
Typically offered by experienced Amazon sellers, industry experts, or reputable platforms like Helium 10, these courses cover a wide range of topics. They include product research methods to identify profitable niches, guidance on sourcing products and suppliers, strategies for optimizing product listings to rank higher in search results, effective marketing techniques, Amazon policy compliance training videos and everything in between the steps we listed above.
By enrolling in an Amazon FBA course, you can accelerate their learning curve, avoid common pitfalls, and gain access to proven strategies that have worked for successful sellers. Courses often include video tutorials, written guides, interactive assignments, and community support, fostering a supportive learning environment.
As new competitors enter and exit the market everyday on Amazon with new features on the Seller Central platform being added regularly, staying up-to-date with the latest trends and strategies can serve you very well and maximize your chances of building a profitable Amazon FBA business.
How Much Does an Amazon FBA Course Typically Cost?
The cost of an Amazon FBA course can vary significantly depending on factors such as the course provider, the depth of content, and the level of support offered. On average, Amazon FBA courses typically range from around $200 to $2,000 or more.
Lower-priced courses often provide fundamental knowledge and basic strategies for beginners. These can be a good starting point for those new to Amazon FBA and looking to grasp the foundational concepts of selling products on the platform. They may cover topics such as product selection, listing optimization, and basic marketing strategies.
Mid-range courses, priced between $500 and $1,000, tend to offer more comprehensive content, advanced strategies, and possibly some form of community support or coaching. These courses may delve deeper into topics like advanced product research techniques, in-depth keyword optimization, and more advanced marketing methods.
Higher-priced Amazon FBA courses, typically ranging from $1,000 to $2,000 or more, often come with extensive content, personalized support, coaching, and potentially even live workshops or seminars. These premium courses are designed to offer a holistic approach to building a successful Amazon FBA business, covering everything from niche selection to scaling your business.
Ultimately, the cost of any Amazon FBA courses should be viewed as an investment in your business education. It’s important to carefully evaluate the content, reviews, and reputation of the course provider to ensure that the price aligns with the value you’ll receive. Keep in mind that a well-structured and informative course can potentially pay for itself many times over by helping you avoid costly mistakes and making informed decisions in your Amazon FBA journey.
I’ll mention what I think is super cool about Helium 10 here. We gift our users Freedom Ticket (our Amazon FBA training course valued at $997) for free when you have a Helium 10 plan. Freedom Ticket has been voted as one of the best Amazon FBA courses by sellers time and time again. Meaning if you want the best of all the worlds — software, education and community — all you really need to build your own Amazon FBA private label brands is us.
What is Private Label?
The private label business model where a retailer or individual seller sources and sells products under their own brand name, rather than selling products produced by other manufacturers or brands. Key characteristics of having your own private label brand will include: 1) you as the seller own the brand and are responsible for branding the products, 2) you will have the ability to customize a specific design and feature requirements and 3) the private label products are often exclusive to the retailer or to you, providing a competitive advantage in terms of unique offerings.
Private label products typically also offer higher profit margins compared to retail arbitrage, selling Amazon wholesale, kindle direct publishing, etc as sellers have more control over pricing, production costs and marketing strategies, allowing for differentiation in the market.
Private label products can be found in various industries, including cosmetics, food and beverages, electronics, clothing, and more. They are often sold through various channels, such as online marketplaces (like Amazon), brick-and-mortar stores, and eCommerce websites. Private label businesses can be highly lucrative when executed effectively, as they enable sellers to create unique offerings, establish brand loyalty, and capture a share of the market in their chosen niche.
Does Amazon Offer Free Courses for Sellers?
Yes, Amazon also offers free courses for sellers through its Seller University platform. Seller University is a valuable resource provided by Amazon to help sellers of all levels enhance their knowledge and skills in various aspects of selling on the platform. Like most FBA courses, they cover a wide range of topics, from getting started with account setup to advanced strategies for growing your business on Amazon.
The courses available on Seller University are designed to provide practical insights and actionable steps to help sellers succeed on Amazon. Topics include product listing optimization, managing inventory, utilizing advertising tools, understanding customer reviews, and more. The courses are often presented in video format and include step-by-step instructions, real-life examples, and best practices directly from Amazon experts.
If you don’t have liquidated cash to invest in software or courses for the time being, Amazon’s free courses can be a valuable resource. They will be a sufficient start to gaining a better understanding of Amazon’s platform and how to leverage its features to your advantage without incurring additional cost.
Should I Hire an Amazon FBA Coach?
Hiring an Amazon FBA coach can be a strategic move for sellers looking to accelerate their success on the platform. While it’s not a necessity, working with a knowledgeable coach can accelerate your path to achieving your goal on Amazon, helping you avoid common pitfalls along the way and navigate the complexities of Amazon’s marketplace and algorithms.
BUT this can typically cost more. Hiring a coach involves an investment, and the success of this approach will still depend on finding a coach who aligns with your business needs and goals.
Truthfully, if you’re committed to learning about selling online, and can allocate the time to self-educate through free resources and courses, you might not need a coach. On the other hand, if you value personalized guidance, then by all means partner with someone who has experience selling on Amazon.

It’s Your Choice.
At the end of the day, some things are standard. Yes, you’ll want a professional seller account and yes, you’ll need products if you’re shooting to become a million dollar Amazon seller eventually.
But being enrolled in paid Amazon seller courses are your prerogative. They are not necessary to starting your own Amazon store. You can build your own brand even if you are learning it all on your own or using free training.
The only thing is just like with anything else — fba selling, selling wholesale, an e-commerce store on Shopify, etc, it just might take a bit longer to get where you are going if you are entirely side-stepping the learning step on your ladder.
Enrolling in a proven Amazon course can really be one of the most rewarding things you can do to catalyze your growth on Amazon. If you really want to get started selling or have been selling for a while and are looking into transition beyond your current numbers, investing into Amazon courses might be the move for you.
And if you ask me, I’ll always say Helium 10 is the best Amazon FBA course out there.
